What does PE mean in plastic?

Chemical formula of plastic

Polyethylene (PE) polymers are semi-crystalline thermoplastics with high toughness and very good chemical resistance. Compared to other plastics, polyethylene tends to have lower mechanical and temperature resistance.

Different polyethylene materials vary in molecular weight, which has a direct effect on the relative physical properties of each type. The most commonly used PE types are PE-HD, PE-HMW and PE-UHMW. There are also various low-density types, such as PE-LD and PE-LLD. Ensinger offers extruded polyethylene rods and compression molded PE variants in the form of bars and sheets.

What is polyethylene

High-density polyethylene is obtained by addition, that is, by adding different units of ethylene. Its molecules have hardly any branching, which gives it a considerable molecular density, resulting in high strength and hardness, as well as greater tolerance to high temperatures. This characteristic is, in turn, the main difference between high-density polyethylene and low-density polyethylene.

The rigidity and strength of polyethylene are its main advantages. It is a material resistant to impacts, traction and high and low temperatures. Its resistance is not only physical, since it is not attacked by acids or solvents.

It is also a very easy material to process by methods such as injection or extrusion. High-density polyethylene is a recyclable material, especially through mechanical and thermal recycling. It has the Plastic Identification Code 2.

The properties of HDPE/PEAD make it suitable for the manufacture of a wide variety of objects such as pipes, cleaning product bottles, caps for all types of containers and plastic tables and chairs.

Polyethylene plastic

Snack type cookies, potato chips, reusable bags. This plastic is rigid… if you try to stretch it with your fingers it does not yield. It usually crunches when you squeeze it with your hand and is widely used in food packaging.    ARE NOT GETTING IT AT THE MOMENT.

Expanded or EPS:    (NO)In Chile known as plumavit, This element is generally not being received.    One of the difficulties in managing this waste is that it is very light and this makes it more expensive to transport.

Triciclos, which is the company that receives most of the types of plastics we have in containers, stopped receiving them in mid-2018 because it is a waste that has no takers in the market.

The recycling world is alive!…yes. It is good to be asking if they receive or not a type of material because as the recycling industry is advancing, so is the market so the types of plastics received at the clean points vary.

Types of high density polyethylene

Other objects in the production of which this material is used include pipes, toys, cables, plastic containers and caps, milk cartons (as one of the insulating layers), containers for detergents and other chemical products, automobile parts, etc. The properties of high density polyethylene HDPE/PEAD make it suitable for the manufacture of a wide variety of objects such as pipes, bottles for cleaning products, caps for all types of containers and plastic tables and chairs.
