Medicinal turpentine

The diluent is composed of an active solvent, a cosolvent and a diluent, substances that fulfill a particular function. The active solvent is the one that will have a direct effect on what is being dissolved, the cosolvent will enhance the effect of the active solvent and the diluent will give volume to the compound. This mixture has toluene as the main solvent, benzene as the cosolvent and a number of solvents as diluents, all of which are toxic to humans.

All diluent manufacturers develop their own products taking into account the composition of their diluents, and therefore, although they may appear similar, very different results can be obtained.

Not all diluents have the same dilution power. Therefore, with identical quantities of thinner, different application viscosities will be obtained. In other words, the dilution power of a diluent will depend not only on the composition of the diluent but also, and fundamentally, on that of the product.
