We have seen in mysql-java-basic that we can establish the connection with the database by means of the DriverManager.getConnection() class. In this way we obtain a real Connection with the database, that is to say, when we call this method, the connection with the database is established and when we call the connection.close() method, this connection is closed.

In java, a connection pool is a java class that has several open database connections. When someone needs a database connection, instead of opening it directly with DriverManager.getConnection(), it is requested to the pool using its pool.getConnection() method. The pool takes one of the connections it already has open, marks it as being used by someone else so as not to give it to anyone else, and returns it. The next call to this pool.getConnection() method will look for a free connection to mark it as busy and return it … and so on.
