Types of plastic resins
The main difference between resin and plastic is that resins are the sticky substances that mostly have a natural origin due to their direct production from plant exudates, whereas plastics are basically considered to have a synthetic polymer nature.
In chemistry, any chemical compound having carbon and hydrogen atoms is generally known as organic compounds. Both resin and plastic are organic in nature, which means that they are composed mainly of long hydrocarbon chains. Both have polymer characteristics due to the presence of repeating units. However, resins are considered more natural. Plastics, on the other hand, are usually synthetic or semi-synthetic in nature.
Most plant resins are made up of terpenes. The specific components of these terpenes are delta-3-carene, sabinene, alpha-pinene and beta-pinene. There is also a high proportion of resin acids in some of the resins. Most plastics, on the other hand, comprise organic polymers. An immense number of these polymers are formed from chains of carbon atoms, either “pure” or with the addition of atoms such as sulfur, oxygen or nitrogen. The chains contain many repeating units that are formed from the monomers. Each polymer chain in plastics will comprise several thousand repeating units.
Polyresin is plastic
Polypropylene is one of the most neutral plastics, since it contains only two elements: carbon (C) and hydrogen (H), and is the result of the polymerization of propylene, while PVC is produced from the polymerization of ethylene and its chemical composition, in addition to the hydrogen and carbon typical of all hydrocarbons, also includes chlorine in a considerable percentage.
In short, polypropylene is a 100% recyclable material while PVC is not recyclable to the same extent, making polypropylene a safer, non-toxic and environmentally friendly alternative to the obsolescent technologies that plastics such as PVC used to offer.
Which is better resin or plastic
Synthetic resins, also called plastic resins, are those used for the manufacture of plastics, because it is a very economical, light, resistant, versatile and easy to maintain material. There are different types of resins with different characteristics. In this article we tell you all about their uses and applications.
Synthetic resins or plastic resins are a material with similar properties to natural resins (a viscous liquid capable of hardening permanently) but very different in chemical structure.
The chemical structure of plastic resins are polymers (macromolecules), made of monomers or chemical compounds of low molecular weight that through a process called polymerization are grouped together to form a new compound: the polymer. These are free of altering composition and body patterns by synthetic resins and fillers, plasticizers, stabilizers, lubricants, the composition of additives such as color material.
