How do you cut plastic with a hot knife?

So, I’m on a brownie kick, and I’m currently playing around with baking batches of brownies in 9 “x13” pans. I want each batch to yield 15 brownies (so I’m aiming for brownies that measure about 3 “x2.5”) and I’d like them to look as presentable as possible (e.g., like these guys ).

The brownie I’m making is meant to be “gooey”, and even after chilling it for 2 hours, and then chilling it in the fridge for another 30 minutes, the brownie on the top half still looked sweet. I ended up using Jay’s suggestion of making an eye in a 4×4 grid, however, I did not use a hot knife. I used a plastic knife with a vertical cutting motion and got fantastic results. The cuts were as clean as you could ask for, and the whole process took no more than 5-10 minutes.

As a side note: I decided to forgo the “foil sling” and spray the 9 “x 13” pan with PAM, cover the bottom with parchment paper and spray it once more. The brownie “loaf” came out smooth and had a perfect crust.

The flexible blade type Type-G30 is used as a cutting element for slotted platforms.  The blade has a medium level of elasticity and can be bent without special tools. The desired shape (e.g. a semicircle with different diameters for cutting pipe slots) can be changed manually or using any available tool. Use clamps for rectangular, angular or straight bends. The flexible blade type-G30 is 30 cm long and 5 mm wide.

The slotted platform works only with the Type-G30 blade.  The Type-G30 blade bent into the desired shape is fixed on special width adjustable supports, which can also be used to adjust the length of the blade.

The platform is equipped with removable guide rails that can be adjusted over the entire width of the platform. You can use one or two rails or remove them completely by unscrewing the fixing bolts.  The allen key is attached to the top of the platform for quick installation of the platform on the blade.

What is a good way to cut hard plastic so that it has a smooth finish?Mythealias I want to cut a piece of plastic dowel. The dowel will be visible (it’s in my laptop stand), so I want it to have a smooth finish. I could use a saw, but the finish will not be good. how should I do it? I’m not sure if a file will be enough to get a proper finish. Steven Saw blades with more teeth produce a finer cut; you may be able to use a saw if you have the right blade.

Craig If you are working with acrylic, you should refer to these technical bulletins for information on working with arcylic. I successfully used a table saw to get a good straight cut and then used a variable speed bench jointer to smooth the edge. I was working with 1/4″ and 1/8″ thick acrylic and the resulting pieces were all rectangular and were over 1″ in each dimension. If you don’t have a jointer, you may be able to use a bench mounted router to get a smooth edge, but I haven’t tried it myself. I tried other methods of cutting acrylic, but only the table saw could give me consistently straight cuts. (I tried a band saw, a jigsaw, and the score and fit method).

How to cut plastic with heat

Nichrome wire (nickel-chromium – NiChrome – NiCr) is the optimal choice for foam cutting equipment for several reasons, but especially because it is resistant to corrosion and oxidation at very high temperatures.

If the foam is between 1 cm and 3 cm thick, you can cut it to the shape you need with a large, sturdy pair of scissors. If it is thicker, you can use knives, cutters or jigsaws with special cutting blades for cutting foam or soft materials.

In addition, this foam has a high amount of gas (this is what makes it increase in volume). When mixed with pure acetone (CH3 – CO – CH3), it dissolves in the acetone, so the gas is released (hence the bubbling observed) and the compact mass that remains is the unexpanded polystyrene.

A very hot oven is not needed to melt most common plastics, such as polypropylene, and it is not desirable for it to be so hot that the plastic burns. In fact, if the heat is too high, the plastic will smoke and burn quickly.
