Can you find meteorites with a metal detector?

How to find gold in the hills

The Rover C II continues to be one of the most successful metal detectors used by many treasure hunters. Recently one of our customers sent us photos and information about an amazing treasure trove of currency he found in Morocco.

Using the Magnetometer mode of operation allows the user to examine large areas for ferromagnetic objects. The result of his investigation was meteorite fragments, often referred to as black stones. A very characteristic feature of these black stones is their melted surface. This typical black or dark brown melting crust is the result of the high heat that changes the meteorite fragments as they enter the Earth’s atmosphere (frictional heat).

The solar system is full of meteors. These meteors fly around the solar system and sometimes collide with other celestial bodies, including the Earth. Some meteors burn up in the atmosphere and never reach Earth’s surface; however, some do. Once a meteor lands on the Earth’s surface, it is classified as a meteorite. If you are interested in owning one of these space treasures, you can go out and find them. You just have to know where to look, how to find a meteorite, and how to distinguish it from other rocks.

How to find out if there is gold on my land

You probably won’t have the opportunity to travel through space, but you might be lucky enough to find a piece of it – also known as a meteorite. Meteorites are space objects or pieces of asteroid or other celestial matter that fall to earth. Surprisingly, there are remnants of rock from space that manage to survive that fall through the atmosphere! Meteorites can be distinguished from terrestrial rocks because they are magnetized by their composition of iron, nickel, or both.

Exploring abandoned mines

If you ever come across a rock that looks otherworldly, there’s a chance it’s a meteorite. Although these are relatively rare on Earth, even so, it would not be impossible for you to find one in the wild. However, you will want to be certain that what you have found is truly a stone or rock containing iron of cosmic origin and not just a chunk of any terrestrial material. You can look at some physical and visual markings that are common in meteorites to determine if the rock you have found really has an extraterrestrial origin.
