Antifreeze Colors
Antifreeze is a chemical consisting primarily of ethyl glycol. When mixed with water, it lowers the freezing and boiling point of the mixture. Unlike air-cooled engines, those equipped with a water cooling system have a radiator and other elements that help to even out the temperature.
Within the system, the antifreeze is transferred in a cycle driven by the water pump, from where it obtains the heat of combustion and transfers it to be cooled again. It also provides the hot air for heating the car, through another radiator, and the cycle starts all over again.
The concentrated antifreeze has not been diluted with water, unless the product label clearly specifies it. It contains the chemical elements that allow it to work better at extreme temperatures, but if we only add this antifreeze liquid to the cooling system, due to the hardness of its components, it can generate oxidation.
Componentes del anticongelante
Los refrigerantes para automóviles son ampliamente utilizados en el sistema de refrigeración del motor de combustión interna, son una parte esencial para el óptimo funcionamiento de un automóvil. Existen tipos de refrigerantes con diferentes soluciones principales, como el Metanol, el Etilenglicol y el Propilenglicol, cualquiera de estos compuestos tienen el mismo problema, ser muy tóxicos y contaminantes, no solo si son vertidos al suelo o ingeridos accidentalmente por personas o animales, sino que si la temperatura del motor supera el punto de ebullición del anticongelante, este comenzará a evaporarse, contaminando también el aire. BioCima una alternativa capaz de cumplir con la calidad, seguridad y función de otros refrigerantes comerciales, pero con un gran beneficio, no afectando la salud de los seres vivos ni el medio ambiente (FAO, 2002).
BioCima es un refrigerante biodegradable, el cual está compuesto por dos sustancias, la primera es la orina de bovino, a la cual se le da un nuevo uso ya que es un desecho del ganado, pero al contener sales provocaría corrosión en el metal, es por ello que se le agrega una segunda sustancia, el limón agrio, así con estos dos líquidos, se neutraliza la sustancia debido a las propiedades que ofrece el limón, como el ácido ascórbico o vitamina C (Intagri, 2018).
Types of antifreeze
In its operation, a car engine generates a great deal of thermal energy. When an explosion occurs inside the cylinder of an internal combustion engine, very high temperatures are reached: between 371 and 593ºC in the case of a gasoline engine, and between 537 and 649ºC in the case of diesel.
It is essential to dissipate this thermal energy to the atmosphere as efficiently as possible to prevent the accumulation of heat from reducing performance or even causing a serious breakdown. It is essential that the operating temperature of the engine is kept within a safe range, and this is ensured by the cooling circuit and antifreeze fluid.
If the engine temperature rises excessively, this can lead to cylinder head gasket failure, fuel self-detonation and, in the worst case, engine seizure due to expansion and deformation of internal parts.
There are several types of antifreeze or coolant liquids, but to ensure the proper functioning of the cooling system it is essential to use the one recommended by the manufacturer.
