In this new course we have the opportunity to feel ourselves as creatures and to learn to love God in his nature. Two dimensions that cover the Franciscan ecology from Justice, Peace and the care of Creation.
If we ask around who is St. Francis of Assisi, we will realize that he is considered the example – par excellence – of the simple, joyful life and the friend of animals. The Church recognizes him as the heavenly Patron Saint of those who cultivate ecology: to think that God is Creator, to know that we are his creatures, to recognize ourselves as brothers and sisters and part of the universe. If we refine further, we can go so far as to say that Francis of Assisi is the godfather of those who unite nature to its Creator.
Francis must have been somewhat childish or – on the contrary – a very profound person because he thanked God for everything, for everyone and in every situation. With his way of living he gave to understand that there were traces of God in the Creation and the dignity of the persons created “in his image and likeness” (Cf. Gn 1, 26-27), “with harmonious form” (Sura 7).
